Himalayan Highlights: 5-Day Kathmandu Pokhara Tour - 5 Days

Welcome to Kathmandu, the vibrant cultural and spiritual heart of Nepal. Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be warmly received by our representative and transferred to your hotel. After a short rest and briefing about your journey, begin your first introduction to Nepal with a cultural exploration of the historic Kathmandu Valley.

In the afternoon, proceed to visit Patan, also known as Lalitpur – the “City of Fine Arts.” Located just across the Bagmati River from Kathmandu, Patan is one of the oldest cities in the valley and a masterpiece of traditional Newari architecture and craftsmanship.

Explore the magnificent Patan Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with ancient palaces, intricately carved temples, and beautiful courtyards that reflect centuries of royal history and artistic excellence. Visit the Krishna Temple, built entirely of stone, the Golden Temple (Hiranya Varna Mahavihar), and the Patan Museum, which houses an exceptional collection of sacred art and cultural artifacts.

As you walk through the narrow lanes, observe local artisans working on metal, wood, and traditional crafts, offering a glimpse into the living heritage of the valley. The atmosphere of Patan, with its timeless architecture and daily local life, provides a perfect cultural introduction to Nepal.

After the tour, return to your hotel in Kathmandu for overnight.

After an early breakfast, begin a scenic drive from Kathmandu to the beautiful lake city of Pokhara. Covering approximately 200 kilometers, the journey takes around 6 to 7 hours and offers a wonderful introduction to Nepal’s countryside.

The drive follows winding mountain highways alongside the Trishuli and Marsyangdi rivers, passing through terraced farmlands, traditional villages, lush hills, and small roadside markets. Along the way, you will experience the changing landscapes of central Nepal, with opportunities for short refreshment and photo stops at scenic viewpoints.

Upon arrival in Pokhara, check in to your hotel and relax. In the evening, you may enjoy a leisurely walk along the vibrant Lakeside area, known for its peaceful atmosphere, cafés, and beautiful views of Phewa Lake.

Early in the morning, drive to Sarangkot (approx. 30 minutes) to witness one of the most breathtaking experiences in Nepal. As the first rays of sunlight illuminate the Himalayan range, enjoy panoramic views of the Annapurna massif, Dhaulagiri, and the iconic Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) rising dramatically above the Pokhara Valley. After the sunrise experience, return to your hotel for breakfast.

After breakfast, begin your city tour of Pokhara, visiting some of its most important cultural and natural landmarks. Explore the sacred Bindabasini Temple, one of the oldest temples in the region. Continue to the impressive Seti Gorge, where the powerful Seti River flows through a deep and narrow canyon. Visit Davis Falls, a unique waterfall that disappears underground, followed by a visit to the nearby Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, a sacred cave shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva.

In the afternoon, proceed to the Lakeside area and enjoy a peaceful boat ride across Phewa Lake. Upon reaching the opposite shore, begin your hike to the hilltop World Peace Pagoda, also known as the White Stupa. This scenic walk takes you through forest trails and hillside paths in the Annapurna foothills.

From the top, enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the Pokhara Valley, Phewa Lake, and the surrounding Himalayan peaks, including Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Machhapuchhre dominating the skyline. The total hiking duration is approximately 3 to 3.5 hours round trip, offering a rewarding soft adventure experience in a peaceful natural setting.

After the hike, descend to the lakeshore, cross the lake by boat, and return to your hotel.

After breakfast, begin your return journey from Pokhara to Kathmandu, following the same scenic Prithvi Highway. The drive covers approximately 200 kilometers and takes around 6 to 7 hours, offering another opportunity to enjoy Nepal’s beautiful countryside.

Travel alongside the flowing rivers, terraced farmlands, forested hills, and traditional villages, experiencing the rural charm and everyday life of central Nepal. There will be convenient stops along the way for refreshments, lunch, and short breaks.

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel. The rest of the evening is free for relaxation or optional independent exploration around the local market or nearby areas.

After breakfast, your cultural sightseeing tour begins. Your guide will meet you at the hotel lobby at 09:30 AM and accompany you for a spiritual exploration of Kathmandu’s most sacred heritage sites.

First, visit the revered Pashupatinath Temple, located on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. This sacred temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is widely regarded as the most important Hindu shrine in Nepal, often referred to as the “Abode of Shiva.” While only Hindus are permitted to enter the main temple complex, visitors can observe the temple surroundings, daily rituals, and the spiritual atmosphere from across the river. You will also witness the traditional Hindu cremation ceremonies performed at the ghats along the Bagmati, offering a profound insight into local beliefs and life traditions.

Afterward, continue to Boudhanath Stupa, located about 3 kilometers away. One of the largest Buddhist stupas in Nepal and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Boudhanath is often called “Mini Tibet” due to its strong Tibetan cultural influence. Walk around the stupa with pilgrims performing kora (circumambulation), observe prayer wheels in motion, and experience the peaceful spiritual ambiance created by fluttering prayer flags and chanting monks.

Following the tour, return to your hotel for check-out (standard check-out time: 12:00 noon). You will then be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport in time to board your onward flight back home.
