The Tragic Earthquake of 2015. On 25 April 2015, Nepal experienced a devastating earthquake measuring 7.8 magnitude. The earthquake triggered a massive avalanche and landslide from Langtang Lirung. Within moments, the avalanche buried Langtang Village under millions of tons of snow, ice, and rocks.
Hundreds of local residents and trekkers lost their lives during this tragic event.
Before the disaster, Langtang Village was a vibrant settlement filled with lodges, tea houses, farms, and traditional homes. The village welcomed thousands of trekkers every year.
Following the tragedy, local communities worked tirelessly to rebuild their homes and tourism industry.
Today, a new Langtang Village stands proudly near the original site. Modern tea houses, lodges, and trekking facilities have been rebuilt.
