You Should Know Before Travel Expand All Collapse All

If you are planning to visit both Darjeeling and Sikkim, then two days are enough to explore this beautiful hill station. Even 2-3 days are sufficient for Gangtok. It is suggested you keep aside 6-7 days for a trip to this part of India. Keep Darjeeling in the first leg of your trip and visit Gangtok second.

While Sikkim offers rugged, wild natural beauty and a deeply spiritual and cultural experience, Darjeeling provides colonial charm, tea garden beauty and easy access to the Himalayas with a relaxed hill station vibe.

As suggested by Sikkim Tourism, the best time to visit Sikkim Goechala trek is either between March and May or October and mid-December. If you want to witness the blooming natural beauty in Gangtok best season to visit would be in spring, from March to May. Autumn, on the other hand, brings the clear view of Himalayan Range.

While summer months from April to June are the best time to visit Darjeeling, some travellers also prefer to visit the beautiful town to enjoy the icy-cool winter months from October to December. October is when the monsoon ends and slight chill sets in

Darjeeling tea is expensive due to its limited production, labour-intensive harvesting process, and unique flavour profile

The best time to visit Gangtok is from October and mid-December. Enjoy snow in January and February at higher elevations. On the contrary, one can plan a trip to Darjeeling in between April to June when the climate remains ideal to hop from one destination to another.

A Darjeeling trip can cost between Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 30,000 or more, depending on your travel style, duration of stay, and activities.

All foreigners other than Nepal and Bhutan nationals require a passport with an Indian visa prior to arrival.

It’s absolutely safe. The main town area is crowded during peak season and vehicle pollution is more. During season time take accomodation just outside the main town limits like Dali etc.
