Sikkim Darjeeling Tour is a 7-day tour in two of the most beautiful and culturally unique parts of the Eastern Himalayas, the colonial-era hill station of Darjeeling and the mountain kingdom that became a state of India, Sikkim. This tour offers high-altitude mountain surroundings but features comfortable, private-vehicle travel from the tea gardens to the alpine valleys, glacial lakes and monasteries, making it a great option for those who prefer to fend off the cold winds without putting on their hiking boots and trekking shoes.
The first day of the trip is a drive from Bhadrapur/Bagdogra to the “Queen of the Hills,” Darjeeling; the colonial-period buildings, the working tea estates and the Kanchenjunga, the third-highest peak in the world, set the theme for the rest of the days. Sunrise at Tiger Hill, the Kanchenjunga Temple, Everest and Makalu follow, followed by a visit to Yiga Choeling Monastery and the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute – the mix of nature and mountaineering history in Darjeeling.
The tour is then transferred to Sikkim, an old kingdom in the Himalayas, which was incorporated into India only in 1975 and is culturally different from the rest of the country – its culture being entirely Buddhist and Lepcha-Bhutia. From the capital of Sikkim, you can take trips into the mountains, starting in the village of Lachung, a quiet spot in North Sikkim set against waterfalls and alpine scenery with its waterfalls and waterfalls, and then Yumthang Valley, known as the “Valley of Flowers” for the profusion of rhododendron flowers in the spring season, and finally, Yumesamdong (0 Point), where the road terminates at 4,700m, and the skyline is defined by raw and rank high mountain terrain.
Ending the tour at the sacred glacial lake of Tsomgo, which is accessible by cable car before heading back to Gangtok and then on to Bagdogra or Bhadrapur for further travel. The focus is always comfortable and accessible – good roads, quality hotels and a speed that allows you to enjoy some of the best of the Eastern Himalaya’s scenery without the rigours of a trek.
